Schalke 04 are in talks with Chelsea on turning the loan deal of Ghana’s Abdul Rahman Baba in to a permanent deal. However, the contract of Baba with Schalke, will have a clause that will consider if he is 100% fit from his knee injury.
Baba suffered the cruciate ligament rupture of his knee during the Africa cup in January. His injry is so serious that he is not expected to recover before autumn.
Currently, Baba is undergoing rehabilitaion in Schalke, where he is in good hands.
If the deal come to fruition, Baba will have the chance to work with a coach, Markus Weinzierl, who trusts his talent and rejuvenate his career with Schalke. It is a win-win for both side.
Nigeria’s Noah Sarenren Bazee has extended his contract with his current club, Hannover 96, for 3 years until 2021, despite interests from clubs as diverse as Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen,Borussia Mönchengladbach or Schalke.
Bazee, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury decided to stay with the club because of the prospects of further development in the game. He said, “In Hannover, everything is working out for me. It is a top club in Germany. After the relegation to the second division, the club placed their trust in me and i like to pay back.”
For Hannover, the extension is seen as outcome of successful negotiations of Horst Heldt, the Sport director and Bazee’s agent Florian Goll. Horst Heldt, remarked , “we are happy that we can work together. In the past 12 months, Noah has indicated his big potential. He is hopefully at the beginning of a glorious career and he has not reached his peak.”
Bazee has played 18 times for Hannover, scored a goal and 8 assists.
He was recently invited by Nigeria’s coach Gernot Rohr, of the Super Eagles to play for Nigeria.
Rahman Baba got injured at the Africa nations cup in the match between Ghana versus Uganda last week in Gabon. According to a statement issued by Schalke today, “Abdul Rahman Baba’s injury to his left knee was found to be worse than was initially forecasted after his operation in Augsburg yesterday. It presented a picture of a complex rupture to his cruciate ligament along with tears to his internal and external cartilage.
Baba is expected to be on the sidelines for some months to recover from the successful operation.
Therefore, his loan deal with Schalke may have come to an end for this season.
The highly anticipated decision by FIFA over the status of Schalke’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to play in the Bundesliga despite nomination from the Cameroon FA for the Africa cup has been resolved. In a tweet by Schalke late Friday evening, stated, “Choupo is eligible to play tomorrow. FIFA disciplinary committee followed the arguments of Schalke.”
Schalke maintained in their argument that after Choupo-Moting was nominated in the preliminary list by Cameroon FA, they did not get further confirmation from Cameroon, if, the attacker is on the final 23 man list for Africa cup.
The decision by FIFA has erased the confusion and drama over the consequences for Schalke,if, Choupo-Moting was sanctioned. Schalke is plagued with injuries and Choupo-Moting’s services is highly needed at the moment.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting explained why he opted out of the Africa nations cup. However, there is confusion over his playing status as the Bundesliga resume tomorrow.
Schalke sports director, Christian Heidel, said at a press conference today, “it states in FIFA statue that when a player does not honor an invitation, then he is not allowed to play for his club during the duration of the tournament. Now, the question is, was Eric Maxim Choupo.Moting invited ? We are of the opinion that he was not invited and therefore should not be sanctioned.”
Heidel also informed Journalists that the club is in constant talks with FIFA and expect a decision latest tomorrow or thereabout. Schalke believe that Choupo-Moting’s case is different from Joel Matip, another Cameroonian, who refused to play for the Indomitable Lions.
It is interesting to note that Choupo-Moting did not announce his retirement from the Indomitable Lions. Let us await the decision of FIFA in relation to the Cameroon national team on the issue.
The Africa cup of nations will take place in Gabon soon. However, the tournament has been plauged with players opting out of the tournament. Prominent among the players for Cameroon is Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. His announcement, came as a big shock to football crazy Cameroonian fans.
Choupo-Moting explained that he decided to stay out of the tournament, because of his commitment to Schalke. His club is hit with lots of injuries and there is no striker with his experience to take charge in his absence.
Also, his contract will soon expire and wants to find a common ground towards renewal.
He came to the conclusion not to play for Cameroon after the Christmas vacation. Although some people were angry and disappointed about his decision, he re-iterated that he has not officially retired from playing for Cameroon.
The name Kevin Prince Boateng mean different things to many people. His past in German football is a never ending story. Loathed by some for ending Ballack’s dream of playing for the Nationalmannschaft at the last world cup. All that is history as the prodigal son has finally come back to the Bundesliga.
In an interview with Kicker, Boateng bared his mind on so many issues. He is happy that the Schalke fans accepted him on his debut for the club against Leverkusen.
Also, three years away from the Bundesliga has made him mature. He said, “the stereotype with the bad boy image is closed.I have learned to focus on the job and in the process to respect other people and be happy myself.”
The public perception of his conduct was the main reason for his turnaround. He added,”i did not want to hear the but to my name any more. Based on the belief, a talented player..but.”
Boateng made a name in football circles for his fight against racism and he gave a five minute talk at the United Nations.
He looks forward to his next match against Mainz this weekend.

The weeks of speculation over Armin Veh’s exit from Frankfurt to Schalke has come to an end. He has decided to extend his contract till end of June 2014.
Veh was forced to make a decision after immense pressure from Eintracht Frankfurt and Schalke. Veh will sign the contract in a press conference on Teusday.
Veh was able to make up his mind for Frankfurt because the management decided to increase investment in procuring new players and keeping old players like Sebstien Jung.
Veh has been the coach of Eintracht Frankfurt since first of July 2011.
Schalke 04 annouced today that Ralf Rangnick, the coach, has resigned due to health reasons. Ralf Rangnick is quoted as saying,”based on a burn out syndrome,i am not in a position to lead the team.” He also said, “after a long thought,i felt that i need a break.”
Rangnick took over from Felix Magath in March this year.
Schalke will hold a press conference to give further details later in the day.
After the death of Robert Enke, most clubs in the Bundesliga now take burn out symptoms seriously. I wish Ralf Rangnick all the best in his recovery.
The sack of Felix Magath as coach and manager of Schalke 04 put an end to weeks of speculation that all is not well in Schalke. Felix Magath replied through his lawyer,Ralf Höcker, that they are not aware of the sack. Hours later,Magath officially announced his resignation from Schalke 04.
The antecedents from the statements of Schalke and Felix Magath indicate a bitter divorce that might end in court. Schalke accuse Magath of transfer irregularities while Magath believe he did not do anything wrong. At stake is the financial compensation for Felix Magath which is put at 12 million Euros.
Magath came to Schalke with a mission to win the Bundesliga. In his first year, they finished second behind Bayern Munich. This season they are placed 10th in the league with the expectation of wining the FA cup. They also qualified for the quarter final of the champions league. He achieved modest success with Schalke.
The crisis between Magath and the supervisory board of Schalke has a lot to with the management style of Felix Magath. Peter Neururer put it bluntly when he said,“the things that Felix Magath destroyed as manager could not be repaired by Felix Magath as coach.”
Schalke 04 is a club with tradition but Magath could not identify closely with the club. He learned under coaches like Ernst Happel and Branko Zebec to be at arm’s length with his players and fans. His last-minute attempt to use Facebook to communicate with the fans was semi succesful.
In the coming days, i hope Schalke and Magath can settle their differences in peace.
Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick is back to Schalke as coach. I wish him goodluck.
